It’s the first Omega model to feature a GE Ultem auger. These special augers are made from a GE composite material, which is designed and tested to last 8 times as long as normal plastic augers. The J8004 is a true slow juicer. The auger runs at just 80 rpm! That means that you won’t risk any heat damage or oxidation to your juice. This makes the Omega a better choice for nutrition-conscious customers, since it’s “cold-pressed.”

These older Omega models do have some isolated issues with wobbly augers. However, any issues you encounter would be covered by the 10-year warranty. A few previous buyers who had trouble said Omega shipped replacement augers, which solved the problem.

In addition to being extremely powerful, the Duo is also one of the most versatile centrifugal juicers on the market. You can use it to make sorbets, smoothies, and juice from all types of produce.
It’s a beast. The Duo is one of the most powerful centrifugal juicers on the market, with a whopping 1200-watt motor. That’s more than enough power to blast through the crunchiest produce, like carrots, beets, or apples. The extra power also makes juicing fast. You can feed whole fruits and vegetables into the 3-inch feed tube, with little to no prep work. Pulp is ejected automatically.
The motor powers a centered cutting assembly, with a juicing disc and spinning pulp basket. The disc pulverizes produce, and then the basket spins the juice out from the pulp. We like the centered assembly better than the off-center designs offered by the competition, since it keeps the juicing chamber clog-free. This helps you work more quickly, and with fewer jams.

It’s built like a tank. The Breville’s body is built from die-cast steel. All the housing is metal, and so is the locking arm. There’s a secondary “puree” disc for soft fruits like citrus and tomato. These generally don’t do as well in centrifugal juicers like the Duo. The puree disc is also good for mangos, berries, and bananas, which tend to be wasted in other centrifugal juicers.
We particularly like that you can also use the Duo’s puree disc for sorbets, smoothies, and other frozen treats. This is great for having more options on your menu, all doable with one appliance.
It’s big. Size is really an advantage because more produce can fit inside the chamber at once. This cuts down on your overall juicing time, and keeps produce from getting stuck in narrow passageways.
The pulp bin and the juice pitcher are also extra large, which suits the larger juicing capacity of the Duo. We love that the pulp bin actually fits under the wing of the Duo, so there’s no gap for juice to drip or make a mess. The pitcher comes with a built-in froth separator, to cut down on foam as you serve your juice.
It’s easy to clean. All the parts aside from the cutting disc are dishwasher safe, and the Duo comes with a brush for scrubbing out the pulp screen. All the plastic parts are also BPA-free.
While there’s a speed setting marked “greens,” no centrifugal juicer is going to get much juice out of leafy greens or herbs. These types of produce really require a masticating or triturating juicer to squeeze out the thin fibers.
The added motor power gives the Duo better extraction rates, since the pulp basket spins faster (increasing centrifugal force). However, it still doesn’t compare to masticating juicers in terms of overall yield.
It’s expensive. The Duo is one of the highest-priced centrifugal juicers on the market.
It’s only covered by a 1-year warranty. While that’s fairly typical for a centrifugal juicer, it’s disappointing when you compare it to the 10 years of coverage you’d get with a masticating juicer.
It’s pretty big, and at 15 pounds, heavy as well. You’ll have to plan on finding a permanent home for the Duo on your counter.

It’s definitely deserving of the moniker “commercial,” thanks to its tough nylon and steel construction quality.
We also love the Champion’s toothed auger, which works wonders on greens and string roots. It’s a rugged, powerful slow juicer that we recommend to anyone who’s going to be in the juicing business for the long haul!
It’s truly commercial grade. The Champion’s entire casing is cast from nylon. We prefer nylon over plastics because it’s shatterproof, and won’t break under even the most extreme pressure. That’s especially important if you’re juicing steadily all day long. The motor and drive system are built from stainless steel, by GE themselves.
We like the Champion’s motor more than the Omega’s because it has higher starting torque. Since it doesn’t rely on a gear system, there are fewer breakable parts, and less of a chance that the motor will jam.
The nylon used in the Champion is food grade and FDA-approved for commercial operations. You won’t have to worry about BPAs or other potentially harmful chemicals.
Champion has also updated this juicer with some smart protections to help it run more smoothly. There are ball bearings at either end of the drive shaft, to keep motor strain and heat to a minimum. Previous buyers said it runs quite cool, even after juicing a whole sack of carrots.
The auger combines the stainless steel and nylon materials. Champion has cast the nylon auger body around a stainless steel shaft, complete with cutting blades. The cast nylon allows the stainless steel edges to poke through the nylon, helping the Champion really gnaw into stringy roots and greens. We love that the auger is cast around the cutting edges, so the blades can never come loose or break off.
The cutting blades give the Champion a big advantage over the Omega when it comes to making green juices. Most masticating juicers have relatively smooth augers, with some mild grooves. They can only squeeze leaves, rather than gnawing into them. The Champion is one of very few masticating juicers with actual cutting blades, which are what you need for juicing leafy greens or tough, string roots like ginger. You’d ordinarily only find blades on triturating juicers, which cost $500+. The Champion has a wider feed chute than the Omega, which makes it easier to feed. You won’t have to do as much prep work, or take as long to juice each glass.

Commercial juicers are available from about $200-$2,000+. We’ve tried to stick to the lower end of the spectrum for a few reasons.
First, we know most small businesses can’t afford to take out a loan just to buy a new juicer.
Second, we’ve found that while the more expensive commercial juicers have larger capacities and more powerful motors, they don’t tend to last any longer than juicers below $500.
Our recommendations are available today for about $200-$500. Traditionally, centrifugal juicers are the cheapest kind on the market ($75-$400).
However, when it comes to juicing commercially, you’ll really want to look at the high-end centrifugal juicers (above $300). They’re more durable, more powerful, and have better warranty coverage than the cheaper household juicers.
Masticating juicers are a bit more expensive overall, and cost between $200 and $500. However, they have better yields (saving you money on your grocery bills) and much better warranty coverage (making them a much safer investment in the long term).
Triturating juicers are the most expensive option. They’re available for $500-$1000+, and are your best bet for making green juices.
However, they tend to take a while to clean. This makes them less convenient for commercial operations, so we haven’t recommended any triturating models here.

Choose between slow juicers vs. fast juicers:
You’ll want to start by thinking about your customers. If your crowd cares a lot about nutrition, they’ll probably expect you to be serving cold-pressed juice.
If your customers are looking for a more grab-and-go option, you’ll probably want to look at a centrifugal juicer.
Slow juicers have two main advantages. First, they produce better juice. Masticating juicers break down pulp, instead of spitting it all out.
This results in a richer, fuller juice with less of a watery consistency. This juice also has a better nutritional profile, since slow juicers don’t heat the juice or introduce as much oxygen (foam) as centrifugal juicers.
Second, they produce more juice. Masticating juicers squeeze out every ounce of pulp from your produce, while centrifugal juicers spin pulp quickly and throw it away.
Slow juicers will result in less waste and higher yields. And while it takes a bit more time to make slow-pressed juice, it keeps in the fridge much better than juice from centrifugal machines.
Cold-pressed juice lasts up to 72 hours without degradation, so you can get ahead in the morning and keep yourself cranking through customers all afternoon.
Centrifugal (fast) juicers excel at speed and convenience. They don’t require nearly as much prep work as masticating juicers.
Many centrifugal models can handle whole fruits and vegetables, even with stems and peels! They also don’t take as long to process each load of produce.
You can get through a few pounds of produce in just a minute or two using a centrifugal juicer. The downside is that they do leave wetter pulp than masticating models, and introduce a fair amount of oxygen into the juice.
This leaves a foamier product, which doesn’t keep as well in the fridge, and is more prone to oxidation, which causes nutrient degradation.
No matter which type of juicer you end up buying, we recommend taking the time to prep all your produce for the day before you open. That way, the only wait time you’ll be passing on to customers is the time it takes to feed produce through the juicer itself.
Make durability your top priority:
We recommend looking for the most durable parts on any commercial juicer. If you’re looking at a machine with plastic parts, you’ll want to make sure they’re heavier and denser than traditional plastic compounds.
We also recommend looking for as many metal parts as possible. Look for stainless steel and titanium parts. They’re sturdier than other metals, and they won’t stain or corrode like some other compounds.
You’ll want to be aware of your warranty coverage on any new juicer. Obviously, the longer the warranty period, the better.
Masticating juicers tend to be covered for 10-15 years, while centrifugal juicers are usually only covered for 1 or 2 years.
One way to get a little more insurance is to purchase aftermarket coverage from Amazon. These plans add an additional 1-4 years of coverage, usually for a pretty reasonable price.
